ASTOVE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT (6 – 12 MAR 2023)

    13 March 2023

    ASTOVE ATOLL FISHING NEWS | 6 – 12 MARCH 2023

The week graced us with amazing weather and spring tides, and thus happy guests! There was a lot of water movement, so we made the most of it and opted for surf walks across the flats. The weather played its part throughout the week allowing the atoll to be experienced to its full potential.

On day one, Jamie got stuck into a nice GT giving him a good taste of what was to come. Garrison also found himself a GT at the end of the line while Corrine got a few surf bonefish.

Chris hooked and landed an unusual species, a blubberlip snapper, a cherry on top of his day as he also managed a GT earlier in the morning. Garrison and Corrine decided to start in the lagoon both getting their 20+ bonefish. Then they headed to the surf, where Garrison managed a trigger and a nice GT as well as surf bonefish to add to the tally, completing the first Slam of the week. Corrine came close but unfortunately, the triggers knew where the rocks were and managed to escape her!

Midweek, Garrison upgraded his personal best GT while Mark and Chris also added to the GT tally for the day.

Both Chris and Jamie got a moustache triggerfish, the bug bit and they spent the rest of the day hungry for triggers, each eager to try to get more. Raj and Mark got stuck into the lagoon bonefish for the morning adding close to 70 for the morning between the both of them.

Towards the end of the week, Raj finally hooked and landed his GT after losing a few earlier in the week while Mark got two onboard. Jamie and Chris went out dredging and had loads of fun landing various species. They decided a bit of popping was in order, watching a few GTs smash but not managing to hook up until the end. Both Chris and Jamie managed to get their topwater GTs. Garrison got three GTs for the day biggest 89 cm off the cliffs at Paulie’s. Corrine got a 90 cm fish, which gave a really good fight, off a ray.

On the last day, Jamie and Chris decided to get their 20+ bonefish for the morning and Mark, still wanting more of the gangstas of the flats, got himself another beautiful geet to close the week!

Stay tuned for next week’s report.
