ALPHONSE ISLAND FISHING NEWS – Opening Week Produces Outstanding Catch Numbers!

    1 October 2019

    Alphonse Island Fishing News | 21st – 28th September 2019

Wind speeds dropped as the Beechcraft landed with twelve very fortunate anglers to open the St. François fishery. The guides still had antifouling under their nails from prepping the fleet for the new season, but this was soon washed away with some incredible permit action. The Upstream Fly Fishing group are notorious for their addiction to this pristine fishery. The guides were all very excited to see the changes that occurred during the four-month rest period. New cuts developing and higher sandy knolls forming, all attracting a magnificent variety of species. Neap tide conditions allowed the anglers to focus on the permitGT’s and triggers with heaps of bonefish around every corner.

The opening week of the season for the St. François fishery could not have been more successful. The first day of the new season started out with the groups’ fearless leader Ray Cadis catching a 58 cm Indo-Pacific permit, while walking the back of the moon, this was his first ever permit and fought it for over 25 minutes.  Our bluewater team rose 13 sailfish and nine wahoo. Vincent Lockwood opened the season with the first sailfish on fly.

It’s evident that through the support of all anglers we are able to conserve this magnificent destination. Congratulations to all!

    Tight Lines,
