    FARQUHAR ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT (22 – 29 MAR 2023)

    FARQUHAR ATOLL FISHING NEWS | 22 – 29 MARCH 2023

    Ten eager anglers descended onto Farquhar Atoll for the week! The anglers were lucky enough to experience fantastic weather with very little wind and a tide that transitioned from a spring to a full neap tide making for some exciting action on the flats.

    Day one was off to a cracking start for everyone. Affectionately referred to as Blom, Maria Hugo landed the first bumpy of the week. Daniel Factor landed the first GT of the week. Renthia Dewaal and Mariki Davis both landed their first bones and Terry Sharman landed his first bonefish, which was a trophy measuring a massive 69 cm.

    On the second day things started heating up. Brendan Kennedy landed his first Bone. Pieter Du Preez (Faffa) landed his first Bumpy. Brent Poultney landed a beautiful GT and Dan followed suit putting everyone to shame, Dan landed four GTs throughout the day with the largest fish measuring 108 cm.

    Midweek Terry landed the first napoleon wrasse of the week with Mitchell Sharman landed his first bone. Blom landed a fantastic 91 cm GT and Renthia landed a beautiful 40 cm Permit.

    The fourth day of fishing was a day of Slams. Faffa landed a GT, a bone and a trigger giving him a Flats Slam and Dan landed a Super Slam consisting of a GT, a moustache trigger, a bone and a bumpy all caught in the surf. Blom landed a nice moustache triggerfish followed by Brent with another GT for the week.

    The massive GTs made an appearance towards the end of the week! Brett Sharman landed his first GT and Faffa and Dan gave everyone else a run for their money. Dan landed a fantastic 118 cm GT and Faffa was not far behind with a nice 113cm GT. Brent also landed his first bumpy ever, a truly remarkable fish!

    The last fishing day of the week saw plenty of action sending all the anglers home with massive smiles on their faces. Brothers, Brett and Mitch, managed to double up on GTs. Brent managed to land two GTs and a napoleon wrasse. Brendan landed his first GT for the week. Blom landed her first Napo and Dan cleaned up as usual coming home with another meter GT measuring 107 cm and three napo’s measuring around the 80 cm mark.

    All in all, the anglers had a fantastic week with great weather and amazing fishing.
