COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT (16 – 23 Mar 2023)
COSMOLEDO FISHING NEWS | 16 – 23 MARCH 2023
The week started off on a pretty heavy neap tide with almost no water movement over the flats during the first bit of the week, but conditions changed quickly as we were soon approaching the last new moon spring tides of the Cosmoledo season.
As the tides started to rapidly swing from the neaps to the springs the movement of fresh water was highly apparent. Surf walks on the lower tides were easily accessible and everyone had their turn in the surf zone looking for fish surfing down waves and hunting down Cosmo’s infamous triggerfish on the dead lows.
Equal numbers of fish were caught both within the lagoon’s white sandy flats and in the surf zone, over the duration of the week. Giant trevally that were found on stingrays made ideal targets for those who were looking to tick off another mean fish on their bucket lists. Fish were eating flies readily and many of the guests were able to catch their first giant trevally.
Lots of the anglers also had a blast on the outside of the atoll during the slack tides catching all sorts of different species including big grouper and snappers! They were able to bend the rod the entire time during an hour or two between tides.
A couple of the ladies and gents managed to dive into some of Cosmoledo’s giant bonefish which can only be found in certain areas around the atoll at specific times during the tides of the week. This was done in between searching for giant trevally for most of the day. The guys walked away with some astounding catches and an incredible average size to the bonefish that they managed to land.
Missy Bonds, Jeff Cromer, Ronald Kendal Jnr, Austin Potenza, Bob Stowe and Jeremy Lewis all came to Cosmoledo in search of their very first giant trevally, and they all managed to make it happen! Congratulations to everyone on the achievement!
Anoosh Rooplal was able to land himself a total number of 10 Giant trevally! Although not his first time fishing for these magnificent fish, it is still an outstanding achievement! Congratulations Anoosh on your great fishing!
