ALPHONSE ISLAND REPORT (29 JANUARY – 05 FEBRUARY)

    10 February 2022

ALPHONSE ATOLL FISHING NEWS | 29 JANUARY – 05 FEBRUARY

A tough week of fishing here on Alphonse for the first week of Feb, with some wet and windy conditions facing the anglers visiting the island. However, it was not all doom and gloom, and we were treated with some much-desired sunshine at the end of the week and the catches sure showed the joy that the sun bought! GT Friday lived up to its name, with a total of seven GTs being caught, along with almost every guest catching a GT throughout the week there were some other phenomenal catches that are worth celebrating!

Starting with Charles, Mike, Joel, Melinda, Marla and Greg all catching their first GTs this week, with Greg and Charles being the GT anglers of the week each landing four fish! Tunch, Bo, Matt and Kajsa all also managed to add to their GT tally, with Kajsa topping the GT length for the week with a 91 cm catch.

On the bonefish front, the big bonefish are definitely still around with Nancy, Charles, Mike, Fred, Marla and Tunch all catching bonefish over 60 cm. Mike, Fred and Charles also managed to catch 20+ bones. After a slow start to the week, Fred turned his luck around on Friday catching two GTs, a yellowmargin triggerfish and a bonefish to complete the only Flats Slam for the week – well done Fred!

Well done to all the anglers this week for sticking it out in some tough weather and catching some phenomenal fish. We hope to see you back soon. The weather and tides for second week of Feb look promising so stay tuned for next week’s report!!
