ALPHONSE ISLAND FISHING NEWS | 18 – 25 MARCH 2023
The wind finally started swinging southeast this week, pushing the warmer water out towards the west. This cooled down the western flats and made for some spectacular bonefish drops on the big springs. Needless to say, the bones took a hammering and were not shy to take most of the usual patterns. Even the thick leader didn’t seem to put them off and guests enjoyed hours of world-class fishing as the water poured off the flats into the lagoon.
The GTs were still around but a bit fussier than the previous couple of weeks. Still, most guests caught their fair share of fish with most being caught around the Cosmics and the south or southeastern side of St. Francois near the surf. The Cosmic Lagoon is always a favourite during the springs, not only for fishing but also for the breathtaking scenery. It should be on the bucket list for any guest visiting Alphonse during the spring tides.
One of the major success stories of the week came in the form of a 61 cm permit caught by Marc, a first-time guest to Alphonse. What makes this catch even more remarkable is the fact that Marc could not speak a word of English and communication with his guide was all done through some interesting sign language. One can only imagine the gestures going on in those twenty minutes of excitement. Well done to the guide, Alex and to Marc on his first gold nugget.
Stay tuned for next week’s report.
Tight lines,
