ALPHONSE ISLAND FISHING NEWS | 11 – 18 MARCH 2023
Another fantastic week out on the flats of Alphonse and St. Francois! This week we were certainly blessed with the weather. Clear skies and very little wind kept our anglers very busy and there were some very memorable fish caught throughout the week!
Tides early on in the week proved great from a bonefishing perspective, with a big spring drop in the morning. Husband and wife duo Lincoln and Pamela managed to share a special moment of 20+ bonefish each in a morning session which is a great achievement!
No shortage of GT action this week either. Chris and Lincoln both managed to land three each for the week. John caught a lovely GT early on his second day out and ended up finishing his week off with another GT and a giant bluefin trevally on Tam Tam Flat which stretched the tape at 75 cm.
The permit were around in full force as well. Jason who dedicated his whole week to the permit fishing was finally able to get his hands on some gold, bringing two beautiful permit to hand on consecutive days fishing. Both of which were lovely fish, at 57 cm and 58 cm respectively. Alec who is no stranger to a permit also managed to add another stunning Indo to his tally first thing in the morning and later on topped it off with an 89 cm GT on his last cast of the day. The biggest GT of the week!
Towards the end of the week, the tides began to slow down and transition into the neaps. The finger flats on St. Francois came alive with triggerfish as they do. Alec, Robert and Tim each managed to entice a moustache triggerfish and get them to stick and Jason, on the last day of the week, decided to put the permit rod aside and land the only yellowmargin triggerfish for the week – a beautiful specimen caught on the white sand measuring 47 cm.
