PROVIDENCE ATOLL FLY FISHING NEWS | 28 JAN – 04 FEB 2024
Giant trevally, triggers, and more made their mark this week at Providence. The guests enjoyed some idyllic fishing, with the weather calming nicely towards the beginning of the week.
Chantal Chone, Mile Beharrrell, Paul Collins, Bo Ribaudo, Kasja Larrson, and Joanne Hessney joined us this week onboard Quo Vardis.
Joanne started her week off spectacularly well by landing a very impressive 78 cm Napoleon wrasse, which tested her strength as she had to fight to keep it out of the corals. She continued her catches, managing several GTs and her first moustache triggerfish. Her boat partner, Chantal, also cashed in on some great fishing as she landed several GTs, her biggest being a fantastic 94 cm. She also managed a great yellowmargin triggerfish and a bonefish, leading her to achieve the only flats slam of the week.
Miles and Paul capitalised on the great fishing as they both landed a decent number of GTs. After a few near changes, Miles finally landed two yellowmargin triggerfish, the biggest being a whopping 54 cm. He also managed to land the biggest Napoleon wrasse measuring 85 cm. Paul had several GTs to his name throughout the week. He locked horns with a plus-sized GT, and a hefty battle ensued. He was victorious in landing an impressive 101 cm GT!
Bo and Kasja also capitalized on the calm weather conditions. Kasja had a brilliant week, landing two triggerfish, one moustache triggerfish, and one yellowmargin triggerfish. She and her guide, Graham, did exceptionally well to keep her 109 cm GT out of the corals — a fish she will no doubt remember for some time to come. Not to mention, this was the biggest GT of the week here on Providence! Bo was the triggerfish champion of the week with three under her belt — two yellowmargins and one moustache. She was also the top GT angler with a very impressive 14 GTs landed.
Overall, it was a brilliant week with great weather and even better company.
