ALPHONSE ISLAND FISHING NEWS | WEEK 1 | 11 – 18 SEPTEMBER 2020
The long wait for the start of the 2020 – 2021 Alphonse Island season is finally over with the arrival of 3 of our long-time fishing friends. The beginning of the week presented neap tides and slow moving current allowing for time to fish the entire atoll. The fish catches started to roll in immediately with permit, GTs, bonefish, yellowmargin and giant triggerfish being caught on a daily basis. The “Grand Slams” started to increase as the tides started to move into the spring phase bringing on more encounters with GTs.
Justin Kemp had 3 “slams”, one with a triggerfish, a GT of 85 cm and a bonefish. Another with 2 triggerfish, a 62 cm permit and a bonefish. Chris started to increase his species list with a giant 64 cm permit, 4 GTs and a special titan triggerfish. Although that sounds like an impossible task to beat, Ray Cadiz was named the angler of the week with 3 permit in 3 days, 3 yellowmargins in a day and 3 moustache triggerfish through the rest of the week. Ray then added the ‘cherry on top’ of the cake by landing a magnificent emerald parrotfish, something that is rarely achieved.
This week Alphonse Island truly showed off its’ diversity and abundance of trophy fish! With the same 3 rods in house we look forward to another amazing weeks fishing.
