PROVIDENCE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 02 FEB – 09 FEB 2025
Once again, Providence demonstrated her true brilliance with an exceptional showcase of impressive catches and powerful slams throughout the week. The anglers onboard Quo Vardis included Gavin Laidlaw, Alex Deane, and the Kurschat family, consisting of Marcus Snr, Marcus Jr, Janis, and Jack. Their combined efforts led to an exciting and successful week on the water.
Gavin and Alex had an incredible week, with Gavin especially standing out for his skill and perseverance. He landed an impressive number of GTs and also successfully caught two Bumphead Parrotfish, five Triggerfish, and several Bonefish. A highlight of his week was achieving the prestigious Super Grand Slam—a remarkable feat in the world of fly fishing—by landing a GT, a Bumphead Parrotfish, a Triggerfish, and a Bonefish all on the same day.
Alex, though relatively new to the world of fly fishing, showed great potential and had a fantastic week as well. He landed two Triggerfish and a GT, though he did experience some frustrating losses, including several GTs, Bones, and Bumpies throughout the week. Despite these setbacks, Alex’s spirit remained high, and he gained valuable experience that will surely pay off in future trips.
Marcus Snr truly stole the show with his outstanding performance on the water. He landed several GTs, including some notable catches: a 101 cm, a 104 cm, and a massive 118 cm GT, the largest of the week. Alongside these incredible catches, Marcus Snr also added a few Triggerfish and Bones to his tally. His fishing prowess was certainly one of the week’s highlights. Janis also made a remarkable contribution to the success of the trip. She landed three GTs and three Triggerfish, two of which were over the 50 cm mark. Her 51 cm and 53 cm Yellowmargins were particularly impressive, showcasing her skill and determination on the water.
Marcus Jr and Jack, both relatively young anglers, had a fantastic experience and made significant strides in their fishing journeys. Both managed to land their first-ever Bumphead Parrotfish—a milestone for any angler. In addition, they joined the coveted one m GT club, with Marcus landing a one meter GT and Jack landing a 103 cm GT. Each of them also achieved a Flats Slam, landing three Triggerfish, and further cemented their place as rising stars in the world of fly fishing.
Despite challenging windy conditions during the first two days, the weather improved significantly, creating ideal conditions for fishing in the days that followed. The wind subsided, and anglers enjoyed prime weather for the remainder of the week. All in all, it was an outstanding week, with a wealth of impressive catches and unforgettable moments. The Providence truly showcased her extraordinary potential, leaving everyone on board with memories to cherish and stories to tell for years to come.
