    PROVIDENCE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 12 JAN – 19 JAN 2025

This week Providence Atoll showcased its true colours with some truly remarkable fishing and the perfect weather to match. The six anglers who joined us this week were David Mangun, Byron Christie, Garrit Gordy, Chance Yargrough, Simon Barr, and Jake Matney, and each one of them brought their A-game to the flats.

David, no stranger to the flats and a self-confessed addict of triggerfish, got straight into it. He spent the week targeting them, eventually landing an impressive 11 triggerfish throughout his stay. Along with these, he added a solid tally of GTs and bumphead parrotfish to his scorecard, proving his well-rounded skills on the flats. Chance also got in on the Triggerfish action, landing seven during the week. But he didn’t stop there. He added a significant number of GTs and bumpies to his list of catches. One of his standout moments came when he hooked into a massive barracuda. Luckily, the fish didn’t bite through his leader, and he managed to bring it in. That was one for the books!

For Jake, this was his first trip to the Seychelles, and he didn’t waste any time. Every fish he caught was a personal first on the fly, and he capitalized on the fantastic conditions. Jake quickly became the big GT champion of the week by landing three fish over the one-meter mark. His impressive haul didn’t stop there—he managed a triggerfish, a GT, and a bumphead parrotfish all on the same day, achieving the first flats slam of the week. That was a remarkable feat, especially for a first-timer. It was also fantastic to have Simon back with us. He had a standout week, landing his first triggerfish and bumphead parrotfish. Simon added some GTs to his tally. However, his week wasn’t without its challenges. On day five, he hooked into a massive fish, only to lose it, but Simon kept his spirits up and didn’t let it get to him. One of his notable catches was the biggest napoleon wrasse of the week, a true prize in any angler’s book.

Garrit was on fire this week, landing several quality GTs, including the biggest of the week—a monstrous 127 cm. Garrit’s skills didn’t stop with that. He also landed his first bumphead parrotfish on the fly, a significant achievement in its own right. On top of that, Garrit also managed to land the only bonefish of the week, which he needed for his Flats Slam. That, combined with a triggerfish and a GT on the same day, made for a truly memorable performance. Byron landed a total of 17 GTs throughout the week, his biggest being a 108 cm and a 113 cm. Byron also added a bumphead parrotfish to his tally, rounding out a very successful week on the flats.

Overall, it was an absolutely incredible week of fishing. Whether it was the satisfaction of landing a personal best, the excitement of a first-time catch, or just sharing stories and laughs with fellow anglers, this week at Providence was one for the books.Thank you to all the anglers who joined us, and we look forward to seeing you back here soon.
