    PROVIDENCE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 18 – 25 FEB 2024

This week on Providence, big geets, bumpies, triggers, and sailfish were all on the cards. Daniel Factor hosted a group with Brent Poultney, Terence and Mitch Sharman, Francois, and Alex Du Preez.

The trip began with sailfish action as Terry was soon hooked into a fish. Unfortunately, it spat the hook out after a lengthy fight. Alex was up next when teasers were rattled by sailfish. This time, it all went according to plan, and Alex had a fairy tale start to the week as he managed to land a very impressive sailfish, which, after a quick photo, was released. Alex did not stop reeling in as he landed his first GT, bumphead parrotfish, and two impressive Napoleon wrasses. Francois added several GTs to his name and managed to land fantastic yellowmargin triggerfish.

Terry and his boat partner Mitch, who were both fairly new to the world of saltwater flats fishing, had a great week. Terry managed to land his first GT on the fly and did not stop there, as he landed several over the course of the week, as well as a fantastic Napoleon wrasse. Mitch also added several geets to his tally. Saving the best for last, the final day saw Mitch lock horns with a 104 cm GT in very shallow waters.

Brent and Daniel had a phenomenal week, with both of them racking up multiple GTs. Brent sadly lost two GTs well within the 1 m mark. He did manage a great fish of 92 cm. Daniel, however, landed two fish over the meter mark, coming in at 103 cm and an enormous 118 cm. He also managed a few yellowmargin triggerfish and two Napoleon Wrasse.

Overall, it was a great week enjoyed by all. The weather was favourable for most of the week, and a variety of different species were caught.
