FARQUHAR ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT |  16 APR – 23 APR

This week, six guests from different corners of the globe arrived on Farquhar and were greeted with near-perfect weather conditions and stunning, crystal-clear waters—setting the stage for an unforgettable week on the flats.

Day one of fishing got off to a strong start, with several noteworthy catches right out the gate. Phillipe, returning for another season and in pursuit of big bonefish, was quickly rewarded. He landed multiple solid fish throughout the day, including a standout trophy bonefish measuring an impressive 63 cm. Adam, new to Farquhar’s waters, wasted no time getting in on the action—landing his very first GT here, which also marked a new personal best for him. Meanwhile, Ed—who has been visiting the atoll for a number of years—finally managed to bring a long-standing goal to life. With Yousuf as his guide, he hooked into a hefty bumphead parrotfish and, after a clean fight and a quick net job, brought it to hand. This marked Ed’s first successful bumpy after three years of close calls and near misses, making the catch that much sweeter.

On day two, Ed continued his streak by landing a solid GT, adding to the week’s growing tally. Jamie, hit the flats hard and managed to hook and land his first bumphead parrotfish. After a string of close encounters the previous day, he finally came tight on a good fish. With Casey sprinting across the flats to cut off any chance of the fish diving into coral, the fish was netted successfully—resulting in a hard-earned and well-celebrated moment, complete with some unforgettable photos.

Day four saw Brad finally join the GT club with a solid catch of his own. Then, on day five, his boat partner Adam continued his strong form and landed yet another GT, further boosting the team’s tally. That same day, Brad, who had lost a number of bumpies earlier in the week—including one just the day before—finally got his redemption. Determined not to let another opportunity slip away, he stayed focused and managed to hook a more cooperative bumphead. With bumpies being his top priority for the trip, this was a huge moment—and with Casey once again perfectly positioned behind the net, the fish was landed and Brad’s week was made. Not to be outdone, Ed managed to notch up another bumpy before wrapping up his trip, adding one more to both the weekly total and his personal count.

On the final day, Phillipe went back to targeting the bonefish shoals and had a very productive session, landing several quality fish. Among them was another trophy-sized bonefish measuring 62 cm—an excellent way to close out his trip and cap off what had already been a stellar week.
