FARQUHAR ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT (15 – 22 FEB 2023)

    23 February 2023

    FARQUHAR ATOLL FISHING NEWS | 15 – 22 FEBRUARY 2023

The week was welcomed with magnificent weather and a great forecast ahead for tides too.

Greg Almond with his boat partner, Ben Wallenstein, had a fantastic first day. Ben on his first trip to Seychelles landed his very first bonefish and a GT with Greg also managing a GT for the day. Garrett Gordy also got himself a GT on the first day of the week.

The following day was a great bumphead parrotfish day with two being landed and many lost. Paul Puckett went out to the surf and got his first ever bumpy and not far down the flat. Ben got an incredible bumpy measuring 116 cm, an absolute tank of a fish. Chance Yarbrough on his second trip to Seychelles got his hands on two GTs while his boat partner, Bill Palmer, got himself his first GT on his first trip to Farquhar.

The host of the week, David Mangum, who is no stranger in the fly fishing world, landed his first bumped parrotfish in the surf and Garrett who was on the boat with him got a beautiful Napoleon Wrasse. Bill Shelly and William Burak, both on their first Seychelles fly fishing trip, went out to target the bumphead parrotfish and both were rewarded with their very first bumpies.

Ben was on a roll and landed a number of GTs for the week but a special catch was a yellowmargin triggerfish he got. Paul, on the same boat as Ben, also caught two moustache triggerfish, his first time catching the species. Bill Palmer also wanted a bumpy and he was not disappointed when he got his hands on one making it the seventh bumpy for the week.

The last day of the week was one for the books with a number of firsts happening. Garrett managed a beautiful moustache triggerfish making it his first ever, David wanted to target the infamous Napoleon wrasse tailing on the flats and he managed to get one on a pancake flat, a great fish of 80 cm. Bill Shelly and William Burak had not caught a GT for the week and the goal was for them to get a GT on the last day. All went to plan and they both managed their first GT on fly, a great way to end the week.

Stay tuned for next week’s report.
    Tight lines,
