COSMOLEDO ATOLL  SEASON ROUND UP 23/24

    FISHING HIGHLIGHTS

Cosmoledo needs no introduction and continues to produce more GTs per season than all our other destinations combined. An astounding 1130 GTs were landed in 20 weeks, averaging around 60 fish per week. While GTs are generally always on the cards for most of our guests some people took to targeting other species, with four milkfish landed, an impressive 12 permit (double that of last season) and 45 triggerfish. The bonefish also showed true to Seychelles form with around 200 landed throughout the season. Known as one of the harder destinations to complete flats slams, an incredible six were accomplished, as well as an extremely impressive super slam. Take a dive into some of the more notable catches from the season below.

    Gigantic Giant Trevally

Helmut and David outdid themselves on the GT fishing front. Helmut, a well-renowned name in the fishing community, managed to land two phenomenal fish of 125cm and 121cm, with the 125cm fish being the biggest for the season. David came in close second, landing 115cm and 101cm GTs in his week. David did not stop there; he also landed an incredible 58cm permit.

    Plentiful Indo-Pacific Permit

Sightings of big permit this season did not stop there, with brothers Carlos and Francisco having an extraordinary start to their week, both landing permit measuring an impressive 60 cm and 59 cm, respectively. Kasja, equally a well-known angler, also got in on the action and landed her biggest permit, measuring a hefty 69cm. Chantal, also needing no introduction, could not help herself either and landed a phenomenal fish of 71cm.  Daniel also jumped on the bandwagon and landed a 75cm fish on his self-tied Alphlexo, truly a fish of a lifetime and the permit of the season on Cosmoledo.

    Mind-blowing Bonefish

Cosmoledo is well known for its plus sized bonefish, with Mike Bonney making the most of them landing a phenomenal fish, measuring 72 cm. Arguably one of the biggest fish ever landed on Cosmoledo and definitely a bonefish of a lifetime.

    Tenacious Triggerfish

The women who visited us this year certainly showed us who’s boss with phenomenal catches, particularly on the triggerfish front. Este landed a 46 cm yellowmargin, Logan a 51cm yellowmargin, and Kasja a 53cm yellowmargin. Finally, Karin and Paula share the top spot with cracking 55 cm yellowmargin, adding to the list of phenomenal female anglers.

    Spectacular Super Flat Slams

Maddie Koo achieved her second flats slam, and Maria Heyns claimed the season’s bragging rights with an impressive super flats slam, with her first permit, a 55 cm moustache triggerfish, a 65 cm bonefish, and a GT to finish it all off.

Congratulations to all our anglers and on some spectacular catches this season, and thank you for making it an unforgettable one. To all the familiar faces, it was lovely to have you join us again, and to all the new faces, we look forward to seeing you again.

Until next time,  tightlines and many happy days of fishing from the Blue Safari Fly Fishing team.
