    COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 23 JAN – 30 JAN 2025

Last week on Cosmoledo, we had the privilege of experiencing the new moon spring tides of January, which brought some spectacular fishing conditions. As the week progressed, we transitioned from neap tides to the spring tides, creating a perfect window for anglers to head into the surf zone during the lower tides. This shift in tides opened up opportunities for targeting a range of sought-after species like triggerfish and the mighty giant trevally. It was one of those weeks when everything seemed to fall into place, allowing our guests to experience the magic of Cosmoledo at its finest.

The weather throughout the week was nothing short of perfect. With clear skies and calm winds, visibility on the flats was crystal clear, providing anglers with the ideal conditions to spot fish and make their cast. The wind remained light and manageable, making the casting and fishing experience all the more enjoyable. It’s not every day you get such a consistent and ideal weather window, so we certainly made the most of it!

Lance Abbott, Beth Roberts, and PJ Kaminer had truly remarkable experiences this week, each landing their very first giant trevally on the fly rod. This is one of those rare milestones every angler dreams of, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Congratulations to Lance, Beth, and PJ for checking off such an impressive bucket-list species, and on top of that, doing so in one of the most stunning locations imaginable.

David Roberts also had a standout moment during his second trip to Cosmoledo Atoll. We all know that Cosmoledo is home to a wide variety of amazing species, but for David, his highlight of the week came when he landed a magnificent moustache triggerfish. This species is as challenging as it is beautiful, and to catch one on a fly is a true accomplishment. David’s excitement was contagious, and it was a pleasure to witness such a memorable moment. Well done, David, for this impressive catch!

Lance Abbott and Dain Drake both added to the excitement by catching some stunning yellow margin triggerfish, with Lance landing a 45 cm fish and Dain reeling in a 53 cm specimen. But Dain wasn’t done there – he also caught two moustache triggerfish, rounding out an already impressive catch list. These two anglers put in the work and had a fantastic week of fishing. Huge congratulations to both of you for your outstanding efforts and catches!

Group host JT van Zandt had his own special moment during the week. In the surf on the southwestern end of the atoll, he managed to land a 51 cm moustache triggerfish. These fish are not only a challenge to find but also require skill and patience to catch, so JT’s catch was a testament to his experience and perseverance. Well done, JT!

Chris Jansen and PJ Kaminer also had great success on the flats, with both anglers managing to land multiple giant trevally throughout the week. Each of them secured two fish measuring a solid 90 cm – a feat that’s no small achievement, considering the power and strength of these apex predators. These GTs were the perfect cherry on top of a week full of remarkable fishing experiences. Well done to Chris and PJ on landing such impressive fish!

Thank you to all of our anglers for joining us this week at Cosmoledo. It was a pleasure to share such a fantastic week of fishing with each of you, and we’re already looking forward to the next time we can welcome you back.
