COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 20 FEB – 27 FEB 2025
What a week it has been on Cosmoledo Atoll! The conditions were absolutely perfect, making for an unforgettable fishing experience. We began the week with neap tides, their gentle, less dynamic movement. As the week progressed, however, the tides began to build and shift toward the powerful spring tides, presenting anglers with a thrilling variety of challenges and opportunities. The rhythm of the tides played a huge role in creating the ideal environment for chasing some truly incredible fish. The weather, couldn’t have been more perfect. The atoll was bathed in full sun throughout the week, with barely a breath of wind to disturb the calm and clarity of the waters. The conditions were absolutely made for flats fishing—calm seas, bright skies, and amazing visibility. It was one of those weeks where every cast felt like it might be the one that brings in a trophy catch.
As the tides shifted and the weather remained ideal, anglers found themselves landing some truly spectacular fish. It was a week of firsts and personal bests, with several anglers making unforgettable memories by landing their very first giant trevally (GT) on the fly! James Amoils, Gian & Aldo Valle, Mark Carter, Paul Ras, Gustavo Zulliger, and David Keating all achieved what many anglers dream of—landing their first Giant Trevally on the flats of Cosmoledo. The feeling of hooking into one of these powerful fish for the first time is something special, and we couldn’t be more excited for each of you!
But the excitement didn’t stop there. We were fortunate to witness some truly epic catches throughout the week. Aldo Valle, in particular, had an experience that will stay with him for a lifetime. While fishing on the southwest flat, Aldo managed to hook a monster—a 120 cm giant trevally that took his fly boat-side before making a powerful run straight into the backing. The fight that followed was nothing short of exhilarating, as the fish tested Aldo’s skills, stamina, and patience. After an intense battle, Aldo successfully landed the fish, securing what can only be described as a truly special and once-in-a-lifetime catch. Congratulations, Aldo, on such an incredible achievement!
Meanwhile, Gustavo Zulliger also had an unforgettable moment. While fishing on the western side of the atoll, Gustavo hooked his very first moustache triggerfish in the surf. This stunning 50 cm fish was a beautiful addition to his fishing portfolio, and landing it in the surf made for a thrilling catch. Congratulations, Gustavo, on your first moustache triggerfish! We are so grateful to all of the anglers who joined us this week—your enthusiasm, perseverance, and good humor made this week an absolute pleasure. We hope the memories of your time on Cosmoledo will stay with you, as they will certainly stay with us. We look forward to welcoming all of you back soon for more adventures, and who knows what other incredible catches lie ahead!
