COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 30 – 06 FEB JAN 2025
This past week on Cosmoledo was largely based over the neap tides, coming off of a full moon spring tide into the first set of neaps for February. The transition from the previous week’s powerful springs into the quieter neaps created a dynamic fishing environment. In the early part of the week, there was substantial water movement still lingering from the previous spring tides, which often leads to exciting fishing conditions. The surge from these larger tides made surf walks possible during the first two days, providing an excellent opportunity to cast into the surf. This allowed anglers to catch some impressive fish, with a number of lovely Giant Trevally landed, alongside a few moustache triggerfish, adding an exciting variety to the catch.
We were joined by an enthusiastic group of anglers this week: Bob Tahara, Roger Rosen, Paule Houle, Dan Gorin, Gunter Kast, Anja Ottmann, Oddin Johnson, and Jefferey Paul. For many of them, this was their first experience with Giant Trevally fishing, and it was a memorable one. Each of them successfully hooked and landed their very first GT during their time on Cosmoledo, marking a significant achievement in their fishing journeys. Congratulations to each one of you for reaching this exciting milestone – you’ve earned it!
In addition to the impressive GT catches, we were treated to a special rarity. Elmer Dotty had the incredible fortune of landing a stunning Indian Mirror Fish, also known as the African Pompano in other parts of the world. This is a rare and uncommon species to catch on the flats, and it’s always a thrill when these elusive fish are brought in. Great job, Elmer – that was a memorable catch for sure!
The adventure continued with even more personal achievements. Paule Houle and Bob Tahara both landed their very first Moustache Triggerfish while out on a surf walk. These beautiful fish were a fantastic addition to their lists of catches and made the experience even more rewarding for both of them. Congratulations, gentlemen, for making that dream catch a reality!
It was truly a pleasure to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of anglers with us this week. Your passion and perseverance made this week on Cosmoledo a fantastic one. We hope to see you all back here soon, ready for another adventure. Thank you to each and every one of you for joining us – it was an honor to share this incredible fishing destination with you.
