    ASTOVE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT |  03 MAR – 10 MAR 2025

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Christopher and Coralyn Griffith on Astove, one of the most unique and remote atolls in the Seychelles. While the couple has explored many of our stunning destinations throughout the archipelago, they had never had the opportunity to experience the distinct beauty and remote charm of Astove. Coralyn had long harbored the dream of diving the world-renowned shear drop-off of Astove, a site famous for its vibrant marine life and dramatic underwater topography. As always, Christopher brought along his fly rods, eager to catch a trophy-sized trevally, a goal he’s pursued across various destinations in the Seychelles.

This week, however, the weather presented its challenges. The conditions fluctuated, with several days of poor visibility, which could have been discouraging for some. But for Christopher and Coralyn, it didn’t dampen their spirits at all. The divers were undeterred by the tough conditions, diving enthusiastically despite the reduced visibility. Meanwhile, the anglers faced a more difficult task as they fished the flats, but this didn’t stop them from trying their best to make the most of the unpredictable weather. Despite the challenges, luck was on Christopher’s side.

On the very first day, he successfully caught a permit with Donavan Dustin, which was an exciting start to the week. By day five, Christopher had another major catch to celebrate – a 77 cm giant trevally, which he landed after a tense and thrilling cast with the head guide, Enrico Aerts. On that day, they cast at an enormous fish, but a smaller one took the fly instead, making for an unforgettable moment in the pristine location known as Paulie’s.

Although the week was primarily focused on diving, the couple made sure to enjoy the full spectrum of experiences that Astove has to offer. They spent time exploring the island, taking in its breathtaking sights, and immersing themselves in its rich history and vibrant wildlife. They enjoyed picnics at secluded, picturesque spots and took scenic drives around the island, visiting historic monuments and spotting native wildlife. Astove, with its pristine landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and peaceful atmosphere, left an indelible impression on them both. Overall, Christopher and Coralyn had a magnificent time, appreciating not only the challenging fishing and diving experiences but also the serenity and beauty of the island itself. Despite the fluctuating weather, they were able to fully embrace the unique adventures Astove offers and left with cherished memories of their unforgettable week.
