    ASTOVE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 08 – 15 MARCH 2024

A spring tide accompanied by some South-Easterly winds and a few rain squalls couldn’t deter Tom from having an excellent week with some lifetime catches.

The trip started off wonderfully with a moustache triggerfish. A few surf bonefish on the menu proved to be a bit of a challenge. On a trip to Paulies on the high tide, saw a 75 cm GT to hand. This now meant all eyes were on bonefish. Blue Moon Lagoon at the top of Astove Lagoon always holds at least one bonefish to finish a slam, and it was there waiting for us. Slam captured!

Day two was a bit more difficult due to the rain and some lightning. The afternoon cleared up, and the mouth of the lagoon was the place to be. After a few swirls on poppers, we changed over to a red brush fly, which quickly caught the attention of the fish. It was a clever decision, as a 98 cm GT was landed.

Over the next two days, the wind calmed down, and there were fewer clouds. We started off with a 70 cm GT free swimming over a shallow bank in the lagoon. This made for an epic eat and fight. Two more smaller GTs were landed on the 9wt with flexos. The low tide was spent walking around the surf, where bonefish and bluefin trevally came to the net.

Day five started at Paulies with a few GTs, one of them being exactly 100 cm on the dot. A few pictures were taken, and the fish was released with huge smiles.

A big thank you to all our guests who joined us. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with you.
