ATOVE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 12 – 19 FEB 2024
The weather held up nicely this week, and the tides played their part. Astove had a mix of guests sharing stories and catches every evening over dinner.
We welcomed Laurent, no stranger to the Seychelles but visiting Astove for the first time. He started on a strong foot from day one, catching himself a 70 cm GT. Giani got his first GT in the lagoon measuring 60 cm, along with 12 bonefish. Andre got stuck into Bluefin trevally on Rays, hoping to find a GT.
Day two saw Andre land his first-ever GT in the lagoon on a ray near the mouth along with bonefish. John and Laurent captured a moustache triggerfish each out in the surf. Giani got stuck into a lagoon bonefish, landing around 15 while having fun on a lighter tackle.
On the third day, Giani got stuck into a few species, landing a three-spot pompano, big-eyed trevally, bluefin trevally, and five bonefish. Orazio ventured into the lagoon, finding himself a GT on a ray. John and Laurent, a formidable team, managed to capture a GT each out in the surf. While out filming, Andre and Elizabeth caught a good number of bluefin trevally, landing around 10 altogether.
On day four, Orazio had some fun in the lagoon, landing some bonefish while searching for GTs, which he managed to get three to the boat. Elizabeth landed her first GT around 60 cm, feeling the fish’s true power.
On the fifth day, Andre and Elizabeth went out on the boat, finding shoals of milkfish that didn’t want to play. The duo ended the day with a surf walk. Laurent managed to capture a GT in the surf while John got stuck into bigger surf bonefish.
On day six, John and Laurent ventured out to the cliffs near the mouth. They both managed to hook fish, but unfortunately, they didn’t land any. Some GTs saved the day in the lagoon.
Orazio finished off the week looking for triggerfish, which is never easy; however, he got four surf bonefish during his search. Giani got stuck into more bonefish, landing 18 for the day. Andre and Elizabeth managed to get stuck into more bluefin trevally in the surf zone, finding and landing some bigger specimens.
Overall, it was a week full of unique catches — an array of species. Thank you to everyone who joined; we hope to welcome you back soon!
