The week kicked off with a 0.8 m low and a wild bonefish Sunday. The sun was out in full force, the water on the east was crisp and the big bones were tailing hard on the edge of the lagoon for most of the day. Post-Sunday, however, it was a tough week for guests and guides alike, having to endure some fierce storms and battle long spells of little to no visibility. Tough weather and big spring tides don’t generally mix well but in spite of it all, the guides still managed to find fish and all guests left happy.
Veteran guide, Yousuf was definitely the guide of the week, managing to put his guests onto two GTs, a milk, and a trigger in some challenging conditions. The only trigger caught this week, and it was no walk in the park – a day of heavier wind than usual, darker clouds making spotting hard, and scattered thundershowers. Still, in a total of three hours fishing, the master found a trigger on a walk to a small wreck, and his guest, Chris, made the shot count. Chris had visited Alphonse on a number of occasions but hadn’t managed to snag a trigger before this. That’s one for the memory bank.
One of our guests, George arrived with a four-piece 10 wt rod which was converted to a five-piece by a large milkfish on Sunday morning. The rest of the week was not conducive to milkfish fishing, but George got his revenge on the last morning landing a 75 cm milk near Guantanamo Bay. Well fished, George.
