ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 26 APR – 03 MAY

Another incredible week on the flats of St. Francois Atoll and Alphonse Island it was one for the books, and once again, it delivered unforgettable catches and lasting memories for our group of anglers.

We were treated to fantastic weather all week—clear skies and consistent southeast winds blowing at a comfortable five to ten knots each day. These ideal conditions made for happy, relaxed fish that were eager to eat when presented with a well-placed flies.

The tides transitioned from neaps into springs, giving our guests a variety of opportunities throughout the week. This tidal shift allowed anglers to confidently target a wide range of species every day and experience everything the atoll has to offer.

Our group featured a great mix of anglers, from first-time saltwater enthusiasts to seasoned veterans, all of whom managed to land an impressive share of quality fish. The week began with many guests diving straight into our world-class bonefish fishery on the iconic white sand flats of St. Francois Atoll. Every angler enjoyed success, landing solid numbers of these elusive silver ghosts.

One of the week’s highlights was the arrival of milkfish in the lagoon. These powerful fighters put on an incredible show as they battled around coral heads and across finger flats. They were particularly active around the Milky Way channel during the dropping tide. The standout catch came from returning guest Chris, who landed three milkfish, including a beast measuring 103 cm.

While the permit were present, they proved to be shy and elusive this week—despite several great shots, none were brought to the net. However, the giant trevally (GTs) and triggerfish were more cooperative, showing up in good numbers and rewarding persistence. Chris had a memorable Thursday morning, starting off with a stunning 101 cm GT while poling through the top lagoon. His day only got better as he went on to catch a sizeable milkfish, two striking moustache triggerfish, and a few bonefish to complete an impressive super slam. All in all, it was another unforgettable week on the flats, marked by some special catches, many personal bests, and several exciting firsts. The stoke is high, and our anglers are already looking forward to their next adventure on the magnificent flats of St. Francois.
