ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 08 NOVEMBER – 22 NOVEMBER 2025
The first two weeks of November brought glassy, windless days, both a blessing and a curse with anglers loving the conditions and fish being cautious. The conditions did not halter the fishing though with some spectacular opportunities and exception fish caught over the last two weeks. From milkfish madness and explosive GT encounters to permit, and hundreds of bonefish, these weeks showcased Alphonse and St Francois exceptional fisheries.
These calm conditions often make for exceptional milk fishing and true to form this is what the anglers experienced. Jonathan, new to Alphonse, was the first to hook one of these powerhouses, just inside a channel on St François and landed an impressible 93 cm missile in under fifteen minutes. Thadius, also a guest new to Alphonse, did not have such an easy first experience hooking 10 and losing all 10 of them, the 11th fish was his luck charm though and he finally landed his first milkfish, a true show case of determination and perseverance. Donal also had a true firsthand experience with milk fishing, hooking a decent fish and almost full hour later and broken rod in three pieces he landed a good first of 93cm. Milkfish are no easy feet and often harder to land then hook, the above accounts are testament to that, so well done to all our angler who caught and landed their first milkfish over the last while.
Targeting triggerfish in these glassy conditions is no easy feet, Nick took to the challenge though and with some skilful angling alittle luck on his side and was rewarded with two great Moustache triggerfish.
The GT’s had been alittle scarce on the flats over the last few weeks, but they have made their return in the last while. Olly, a former Alphonse Guide, opened is account with an exceptional fish of 102cm landed in the surf on Bijoutier. Dale was eager to follow suit and put in a lot of effort chasing GT’s all week, on the final day his luck changed, when his beast fly got devoured by a hefty looking fish, alittle while later he landed his very first GT of 86cm.
Rick joined us with the goal of landing the main five species commonly targeted on Alphonse, his trip started with a bang landing a phenomenal permit of 61cm on his first day. Later on, during the week he also had a phenomenal day landing a flats slam, consisting of a GT, Moustache triggerfish and bonefish. He unfortunately did not tick off his milkfish, but will sure be back to take on the final species. Sharing similar sentiments Adrien had a very special day on the flats landing a super flats slam consisting of a Milkfish, triggerfish, GT and bonefish, unfortunately the permit evaded him but an exceptional achievement, nonetheless.
As always the bone fishing on our sandy flats, provided constant action and entertainment , with a staggering 537 fish landed in a weeks.
Offshore, the pelagic show continued, with Sailfish and wahoo remaining in high numbers. Families and friend groups took to the Bluewater to share the excitement, with seven sailfish landed across the two weeks and many guests watching their first-ever billfish tear across the surface.
From milkfish mayhem, flats slams, and hundreds of bonefish, these two weeks on Alphonse delivered everything our anglers could hope for. With first-time milestones, long-awaited achievements, and unforgettable moments on both flats and open ocean, the atolls once again proved that no matter the weather, there is always magic waiting on the water.
