ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 24 MAY – 31 MAY

This week brought dynamic weather conditions, with a mix of sunshine, occasional rain showers, and fresh winds. The strong spring tides added an exciting edge to the fishing, raising the chances of encountering some impressive fish.

Day one saw British anglers Paul and Robert heading out a little later than usual due to early morning rain. Once conditions cleared, they made their way to St Francois Atoll, easing back into fishing with a few bonefish to start the tally. Later in the day, they headed out to the deep in search of GTs, but unfortunately didn’t raise any.

On day two, with the promise of better weather, the pair focused their efforts offshore—and it paid off. Robert landed a solid 86 cm giant trevally, and although a few bigger fish showed interest in the fly, none were hooked.

Day four brought more wind and rain, but that didn’t stop Paul from landing a GT of 76 cm. Day six proved to be the defining moment of the trip. Paul, guided by Luke, spent the morning in search of the elusive permit. After three different fish ate his fly without connecting, he finally landed a stunning 61 cm permit. Later that day, he added a 29 cm yellowmargin triggerfish to cap off his week in style.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the atoll, Robert—guided by Yousuf—took on a long walk from East Knoll down along the eastern side. Despite tougher conditions, the move paid off. Robert landed four yellowmargin triggerfish, the largest measuring 58 cm, along with a beautiful GT of 88 cm.
