ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 10 MAY – 17 MAY

This week shaped up to be a promising one, with spring tides throughout and the weather holding steady. As the water began to cool, fish activity remained high, and anticipation was in the air. With just two anglers on the flats this week—honeymooners Ruffin and Rachel—the stage was set for a special and memorable experience.

Day one saw the newlyweds heading out with Luke, eager to make the most of their time on the water. They hit the ground running, landing an impressive seven bonefish between them. The highlight of the day came when Ruffin brought a 71 cm giant trevally to hand—an exciting and rewarding start to their trip.

Motivated by their early success, Ruffin and Rachel set out on day two with Reece, determined to build on the momentum. They added a few more bonefish to their tally, and Ruffin once again delivered, landing another GT—this one measuring 60 cm. It was another action-filled day, ending with Ruffin already looking forward to what was next.

Their third and final day of fishing saw them paired with James. Wasting no time, they quickly landed a couple more bonefish before Ruffin struck yet again, this time with a 72 cm GT—his third in as many days. With time left in the day, they turned their attention to triggerfish, managing to get a few shots. Although they weren’t able to tempt one to eat, the effort and enthusiasm never wavered.

Though their stay was shorter than most, Ruffin and Rachel made every moment count. Landing a GT each day of their visit is no small feat and a testament to their determination, skill, and good spirits. It was a joy to host such enthusiastic and positive guests on Alphonse, and we’re already looking forward to the week ahead as the neap tides approach.
