COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 17 APR – 24 APR 2025
This past week on Cosmoledo was predominantly shaped by neap tides, with the half moon landing almost perfectly in the middle of the week. This created minimal tidal movement, leaving water on the flats for most of the day. While this meant that certain areas offered longer fishing windows, it also led to fish being more spread out across the flats, requiring a bit more patience and persistence to track them down.
The weather was fairly consistent throughout the week. We experienced the occasional passing rain and light winds blowing across the atoll for the most part. The skies were largely clear ensuring good visibility, which is always a key advantage when spotting fish on the flats.
We had an enthusiastic group of anglers this week, and we’re thrilled to report that George White, Steve & Hayes Millham, Jefferey & Sam Taylor, David Boudreau, Byrd Marshall, and Timothy Stevens all managed to land their first giant trevally on fly! For many, this is a milestone moment and a memory that will last a lifetime. Catching your first GT on the fly is something every saltwater fly angler dreams of—congratulations, gentlemen, on an unforgettable achievement!
A special congratulations goes out to Byrd Marshall, who started his day with an incredible piece of luck—and skill—by landing a stunning 51cm indo-pacific permit on his very first cast of the morning! It’s an amazing accomplishment and a testament to being in the right place at the right time, with the right cast. Well done, Byrd!
In addition to the GTs and permit, Cosmoledo’s legendary bonefish were out in impressive numbers this week. Several of the atoll’s above-average-size bonefish were brought to hand, and many anglers walked away with personal bests. These fish, known for their power and speed, offered up some exciting fights and made for memorable sessions on the flats.
Thank you to each and every one of you who joined us this week. Your energy, enthusiasm, and passion for fly fishing helped make it a fantastic time on the water. We hope to welcome you all back to Cosmoledo in the near future for more epic fishing adventures.
