    ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 29 MAR – 05 APR 2025

ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 29 MAR – 05 APR

As we transitioned from March into April we were treated with some incredible catches on the Alphonse and St Francois atolls. The tides shifted from springs into neaps and we had clear skies and sunshine. These conditions were ideal for our anglers to make the most of what our fishery has to offer.

This week we had the pleasure of having Malte Siewert and Mikael Erikson on the water with us, with their profound fly fishing skill and our bustling fishery it was a match made in heaven. Malte clearly has a way with the giant trevally’s here on Alphonse because he managed a total of seven geets whilst he was here which is serious accomplishment. Fishing alongside Malte was Mikael who managed some amazing fish throughout the week and tackled some incredibly rare species, not only did Mikael land four impressive GTs but also a sizeable 46 cm moustache triggerfish.

Christian Rhode performed throughout the week. He started off his week with an impressive 82 cm GT, he was then interested in finding the ‘holy grail’ and successfully landed a prize permit. Christian then went after an Alphonse flats slam which consisted of a bonefish, a yellow margin triggerfish and last but not least a beautiful 112 cm GT! Christian also tussled with and landed a 92 cm milkfish and then took off on a blue water to land two large wahoo. Congrats on an outstanding week of fishing Christian.

The GT fishing throughout the week was nothing short of spectacular and the flats were alive with magic and flare. Jonathan Boultan landed a total of five giant trevally during his time here, his two largest ones coming in at 95 cm. His wife Sarah was also successful in landing her first ever GT. Stephan Muller started off by catching his first bonefish and ended the week with a special 105 cm geet. Andrew Laursen also managed a lovely 94 cm GT. Murray Collins joined us for a few days before heading off to Cosmoledo and after 20 years and countless hours of trying, he landed his dream fish. Murray has been after a big geet for a while now and this week he caught the fish of a lifetime, guided by Luke Van Den Heever, Murray landed an unbelievable 125 cm giant trevally setting a new personal best!

A wonderful and determined father – daughter duo, Maddie and David Koo, joined us for a couple of days and had a really special day out on the flats together. They teamed up to land a total of six geets in just one day, three each. Maddie landed a nice geet of 91 cm. it was a pleasure having David and Maddie this week and we look forward to seeing them again soon. We had constant action from the triggerfish this week and as tricky as they are to land, a substantial number of anglers managed to do so. Stephan Muller landed a beautiful 50 cm yellow margin triggerfish and Frank Grossi had mastered the moustache triggers and landed three here with us.

When fishing for milks ones cast cannot be anything short of perfect, some anglers took to the challenge and had some real fun going after this strong and tactical species of fish. Jonathan Boultan landed a lovely 87 cm milk, his wife Sarah and Stephan Muller also managed a 96 cm milkfish on the Alphonse Atoll. We had an action packed week with a lot of catches. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting and spending time with each angler who made this week so special with their hard work, determination and evident passion for fishing making this week one we will not forget. Thank you to all who joined us and some hearty congratulations on all of your victories.
