ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT | 15 MAR – 22 MAR
Once again, Alphonse island delivered. A week, with predominantly clear skies and spring tides, meant the fishery was alive with hope and countless opportunities. Our anglers had a blast, with various species landed with some noteworthy ones below.
There was some lively action from the giant trevally’s this week, although they can be an extremely difficult fight, some promising anglers came out victorious. Dean Mansfield arrived on Alphonse in hopes of landing a GT and after a few days out on the water he had cracked the code and managed to catch three GTs, the largest coming in at 76 cm, congratulations Dean! Laurent Dobler was also triumphant in getting his hands on two beautiful geets during his week with us. A mother and son duo joined us this week and had an unforgettable day on the water, Virginia goodyer and Seth Kopald each caught impressive GTs coming in at 84 cm and 86 cm. Eric Bormann caught his first ever GT with us here on Alphonse, a proud 71 cm fish, what an achievement. Jan Dikstra was equally successful on the GT front adding another to his ever building tally.
A notable variety of species were caught this week, some very impressive fishing was in play to land some of our smaller but possibly even trickier species. Triggerfish are a very deceiving fish here on the flats, they may be smaller in size but they are smart, nifty and surprisingly powerful. That didn’t stop Dean Mansfield from targeting them and landing a beautiful yellowmargin triggerfish! Permit are known to be elusive and tough to target, angler Jonathan Clarke stood up to the challenge though and successfully landed himself a golden nugget. Batfish are becoming a more regular catch on our destinations, Christian.w. Ludwig decided to stand up to the challenge of targeting one and caught an impressive one during his stay, a well-earned reward, congratulations Christian.
The ever present bonefish kept our anglers busy all week. A grand total of 131 bonefish were landed this week by our anglers, the largest of the lot being a 65 cm fish landed by Jonathan Clarke. Mandeep Grewal also went after some of the bigger bones on the flats and caught impressive 61 cm and 63 cm bonefish, respectively. Also catching a beautiful bonefish was a great angler, Breno Ballesteros who managed a 61 cm bonefish. A huge well done to all of you!
As another week has come and gone we remain eternally grateful for our incredible fishery that continues to provide for us with such an astounding abundance of fish. We look forward to what is to come next week, many thanks to all who visited and enjoyed the magic of what Alphonse island has on offer, until next time.
