COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 06 MAR – 12 MAR 2025
This past week on Cosmoledo was primarily focused on the neap tides, which gradually transitioned into the spring tides towards the final days of the week. The shifting tides brought some unique opportunities and challenges for the anglers.
The weather conditions were generally favorable for most of the week, with only brief moments of wind and poor light on the flats, making for some tricky fishing during certain parts of the day. Despite these short interruptions, the conditions didn’t stop the action from unfolding!
A highlight of the week was the success of a few anglers who landed their very first giant trevally. Mark Rayner, Dudley Cartwright, Sven, Brett & Clive Brauteseth, and Estelle Changuion all celebrated catching their first-ever GT on the flats of Cosmoledo! Huge congratulations to each of you for ticking that milestone off your list!
In addition to the GT excitement, we also saw some remarkable catches of less common species, which we don’t typically encounter during an average week. A slightly reduced number of giant trevally on the flats meant that some creative and unconventional tactics were put into play, and they certainly paid off. Dredging, popping, and blind casting through the channels of the atoll proved to be highly effective, leading to a variety of species being tempted by the fly. One of the standout moments was when Brett Brauteseth successfully caught a magnificent yellowfin tuna on the dredge—what a special catch! Congratulations, Brett!
As the spring tides kicked in, a few anglers also caught moustache triggerfish, an exciting species to target. Laurent Dobler, Tom Borman, and Peter Filmer all added this unique catch to their list by the end of the week.
Mike Rudman also had an unforgettable moment when he landed his first milkfish on the outside of the atoll early one morning. Mike found a group of feeding milks, and after some persistence, successfully hooked and landed this prized fish. Congratulations, Mike!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this week on Cosmoledo! It was an incredible time on the water, and we would love to see you all back again soon for another unforgettable experience.
