    PROVIDENCE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 09 FEB – 16 FEB 2025

It was the much-anticipated return of the Ocean Active week, and it did not disappoint. The group consisted of Saif Al Zarouni, David De Kock, Alan Stanton, Matt Born, Neil Shackleton, and Nick Bowles, all eager for another adventure on the water.

The fishing was nothing short of exceptional this week, with a remarkable variety of species caught and many anglers achieving both Flat and Super Grand Slams. The excitement on the flats was palpable, and the team’s enthusiasm only grew as the week progressed.

Saif had a standout week, landing several giant trevally (GTs), with his largest measuring an impressive 105 cm. In addition to the GTs, Saif managed to land two Milkfish, two Triggerfish, and a handful of Bonefish, showing his versatility and skill in targeting a wide range of species. His efforts earned him a well-deserved Super Grand Slam, adding another achievement to his fishing career.

Matt, always a strong contender, also had a stellar week on the water. Like Saif, he landed several GTs, including some impressive specimens, and added three Triggerfish to his tally. Matt also hooked a Milkfish and a Bumphead Parrotfish, which is a rare and coveted catch. His performance was truly exceptional, and he also achieved a Super Grand Slam during the week, proving his prowess on the flats.

Alan started the week strong by landing a Bumphead Parrotfish on the very first day. From there, his success continued, as he caught multiple GTs, one Milkfish, two Triggerfish, and a handful of Bonefish. Alan’s consistency throughout the week was remarkable, and like his fellow anglers, he also achieved a Super Grand Slam, completing a full sweep of the most sought-after species in these waters.

Neil, a relatively new comer to the world of fly fishing, had an unforgettable week. He landed several GTs, with his largest reaching 105 cm, and had the unfortunate heartbreak of losing an absolute giant at the boat—a moment that left everyone on the skiff in disbelief. Despite this, Neil’s week was filled with success, including two Triggerfish, one Milkfish, and a few Bonefish. His passion for the sport and perseverance were evident, and he made the most of every opportunity on the water.

David had an equally impressive week, landing multiple GTs, three Triggerfish, two Milkfish, and a few Bonefish. His skill and determination paid off, and he was able to achieve his very own Super Grand Slam, solidifying his place as one of the top anglers of the week.

Nick also had a stellar week, with a great catch of GTs, three Triggerfish, one Milkfish, and a Bonefish. His solid performance on the water was a testament to his experience and adaptability, and he finished the week with some outstanding catches.

Overall, it was an incredible, fun-filled week with plenty of laughter, camaraderie, and cold beers shared amongst friends. The weather was absolutely sublime, and the Atoll truly showed off her true colors, providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable fishing adventure. The memories made during this trip will undoubtedly last a lifetime, and we can’t wait for the next one.
