    PROVIDENCE ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 23 FEB – 02 MAR 2025

Providence once again lived up to its reputation as a world-class fishing destination this week, as six anglers enjoyed an absolutely unforgettable week filled with extraordinary catches and even more extraordinary memories, both on and off the water. Chris Cox, Kevin Hodgson, Trevor Jacobs, Bruce Neil, Rowan Gordon, and Bruce Stuart joined us for what quickly turned into a week of high-energy fishing, exceptional camaraderie, and a variety of fish species that kept everyone on their toes.

The week started with the gentle influence of the neap tides, which allowed anglers to take full advantage of the bumpy areas around the atoll. The relatively calm tidal movement provided ideal conditions for targeting some of Providence’s most sought-after species, and the results were evident. Bruce Neil and Rowan Gordon each landed two impressive fish in the bumpy area, while Chris Cox, Bruce Stuart, and Trevor Jacobs also managed to land a catch each. It was the perfect way to ease into the week and get a feel for the waters before the action really ramped up.

As the tides progressed and the conditions became more dynamic, the fishing only got better. GT fishing was absolutely sensational, with every single angler having multiple encounters with these powerful predators throughout the week. The highlight came early in the week when Bruce Stuart and Trevor Jacobs had a truly phenomenal opening day, with both anglers managing to land an astonishing 16 giant trevally (GTs) between them! What an incredible way to kick off a week of fishing—these two were off to a blazing start, setting the tone for the rest of the trip. The excitement didn’t stop there. Bruce Neil and Rowan Gordon both reached impressive milestones by landing GTs that broke the 1-meter mark, 104cm Giants. These powerful fish put up a strong fight, but both Bruce and Rowan managed to subdue them with precision and patience.

In addition to the thrilling GT action, the triggerfish were in abundance this week, with most of the anglers managing to land several of these tricky and elusive creatures. These fish are known for their challenging nature, so each successful catch was a testament to the anglers’ skill and perseverance. Perhaps most notably, Chris Cox had an exceptional week with the triggerfish, landing a total of six throughout his time on the water. His ability to outwit these notoriously difficult fish was nothing short of impressive, and his tally certainly set him apart as one of the week’s standout anglers.

But as incredible as the fishing was, it was the good times and the laughs, shared among the group that really made this week unforgettable. There was a palpable sense of excitement and joy throughout the trip, with anglers trading stories, sharing tips, and revelling in the highs and lows that come with fishing in such an extraordinary place. As the week drew to a close, the smiles, stories, and laughter were a clear reflection of just how special the experience had been for everyone involved. A huge thank you to Chris, Kevin, Trevor, Bruce, Rowan, and Bruce Stuart for making this week so memorable. We hope you all return soon for another round of unforgettable fishing adventures in the pristine waters of Providence Atoll.
