Wahoo can be found throughout the world’s oceans where the climate is tropical or subtropical with warm water temperatures. Their growth rate can be quite rapid and they are one of the fastest fish in the sea. Bigger wahoo can be solitary fish, but they also move in groups formed by 2 or 3 fish to as many as 100 fish.
Targeting Wahoo is often a waiting game and finding where the fish are holding offshore, trawling baitless teasers around and over ocean drop-offs and pinicals is the best way to find them, targeting depth ranges from 80 to 200 meters.
Wahoo are found throughout the seychelles, with some destinations offering better fishing then others. The Alphonse Group and Amirantes Islands are most well know and provide the best opportunities at these species.
The most commonly used setups when targeting Wahoo are 11 and 12 weight rods and matching reels with smooth drags. Reels are spooled with 300 – 500 yards of 80lb backing and a tropical floating fly line to match.

This popper is tied on an 8/0 Gamakatsu hook and resembles most baitfish, but most importantly makes some noise when stripped through the water. Hook quality has a lot to do with the fly chosen for this job, as tuna fish are very quick to bend out or break poor-quality designs.

The black brush fly is quite easily one of the most successful GT flies and has probably tricked more GT’s than any other fly. The addition of colour can also work well with combinations of purple, red and olive all proving to be very effective additions. Keith often gets asked “What fly works the best for geets?” and more often than not he’ll point to one of these
