Alphonse Fishing Lodge

The Indian Ocean's largest bonefish population

About The Destination

The Alphonse Group is one of the most famed saltwater fly fishing destinations in the Indian Ocean. Its 10 000 acres of white sand flats provide easy wading and world-class fly fishing, and is most well-known for its exceptional populations of bonefish as well as a variety of species. The fishing season at Alphonse Island runs all year round, with certain times being more suited to experienced anglers.

The offshore waters are also home to the most incredible variety of bluewater fish species, making it a great destination for game fishing. The structure and sheer drop-offs are ideal for attracting a variety of pelagic species that can be caught on the fly as well as conventional trawling methods.

Fly Fishing Alphonse Group of Atolls

Take a look at some of the species you can target on fly with Alphonse Fishing Company™.

Bonefish

Bonefish (Albula vulpes) are the world’s most recreationally targeted saltwater species on fly. A challenge for any angler due to their speed, blistering runs and never give up attitude.

Wahoo

Wahoo can be found throughout the world’s oceans where the climate is tropical or subtropical with warm water temperatures. Their growth rate can be quite rapid and they are one of the fastest fish in the sea.

Bluefin Trevally

The Bluefin Trevally is considered by many anglers as the prettiest fish in the Carangidae family, due its unique mix of colours and a variety of shades from blue to yellow. Saltwater anglers queue up to get a taste of the Bluefin Trevally’s power.

Indo-Pacific Permit

Golden-yellow fins with big, black eyes are the most striking features of an Indo-Pacific Permit. Apart from that, they are well camouflaged on the backdrop of white sand, turtle grass, or coral flats. Their body is a silver, almost mirror-like colour that reflects their habitat, making them nearly invisible to the untrained eye.

Giant Trevally

Targeting Giant Trevallies on the fly is not for the faint-hearted, they are fierce, big, aggressive, and incredibly powerful. They are also quite often completely underestimated by new anglers but are respected by new and seasoned anglers alike. You need more than the best Giant Trevally flies, the best fly rod, and ideal conditions to catch Giant Trevally – they have earned their name as ‘the gangstas of the flats’ for a good reason!

Moustache Triggerfish

There are three main species of Triggerfish at Alphonse Fishing Company destinations, all equal in beauty and challenge!
