Alphonse Fishing Lodge

Home to the Bumphead Parrotfish

About The Destination

Home of the bumphead parrotfish and bird eating GTs, Farquhar Atoll is the most southerly atoll in the Seychelles islands, lying just over 700 km to the southwest of the main island Mahe.

This remote atoll has a total area, including the large lagoon, of 170.5 km², which is 18 km north to south and 9 km east to west.

The large ear-shaped lagoon provides easy skiff access to the countless flats, channels, and surf zones that makes Farquhar Atoll such an amazing fly fishing destination.

Fly Fishing Farquhar Atoll

Take a look at some of the species you can target on fly with Alphonse Fishing Company™.

Giant Trevally

Targeting Giant Trevallies on the fly is not for the faint-hearted, they are fierce, big, aggressive, and incredibly powerful. They are also quite often completely underestimated by new anglers but are respected by new and seasoned anglers alike. You need more than the best Giant Trevally flies, the best fly rod, and ideal conditions to catch giant Trevally – they have earned their name as ‘the gangstas of the flats’ for a good reason!

Bumphead Parrotfish

The allure of targeting a Bumphead Parrot fish or Bumpies has brought many an angler to the Seychelles. Farquhar and Providence are two of the very few destinations where flyfishers can actively target Bumphead Parrotfish on the flats.

Bonefish

Bonefish (Albula vulpes) are the world’s most recreationally targeted saltwater species on fly. A challenge for any angler due to their speed, blistering runs and never give up attitude.

Moustache Triggerfish

Moustache Triggerfish (Balistoides viridescens), appropriately named as it boasts a very prominent dark line above the top lip. With its yellow body and orange fins edged with black lines it is the most commonly caught Trigger.

Yellowmargin Triggerfish

Yellowmargin Triggerfish (Pseudobalistes flavimarginatus), with an array of colours, it has a tan body with dark spots, orange margins in the fins, and a pinky-orange snout and cheeks.

Indo-Pacific Permit

Golden-yellow fins with big, black eyes are the most striking features of an Indo-Pacific Permit. Apart from that, they are well camouflaged on the backdrop of white sand, turtle grass, or coral flats. Their body is a silver, almost mirror-like colour that reflects their habitat, making them nearly invisible to the untrained eye.
