COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 28 NOV – 05 DEC 2024
This past week on Cosmoledo Atoll was a perfect kick off to our 2024/25 season, with spring tides providing the perfect conditions for our anglers. The new moon tides allowed for excellent surf walks, and the vast sand flats within the lagoon opened up opportunities to target GTs in both the surf and the shallows. Guests were treated to blue skies, minimal cloud cover, and perfect wind conditions, making for a week filled with hot days and plenty of fish action. The calm seas and picture perfect weather made for an experience of a lifetime.
Our group of guests this week had a truly unforgettable experience right from the start, with several anglers landing GTs and checking off prized species from their fishing bucket lists. Steve and James, both experiencing saltwater fly fishing for the very first time, absolutely excelled on the water. James kicked off his trip in style by landing his first bonefish and GT, while Steve also crossed the GT off his list. As the week progressed, both anglers continued to impress, demonstrating skill and determination. By the end of their trip, James and Steve had each caught over 20 giant trevally, making for an incredible first experience in the salt. It was a week of non-stop action, and their success was a highlight of the trip!
Robert had an outstanding week, with some truly impressive catches that highlighted his skill and perseverance. One of his standout moments came when he landed a stunning moustache triggerfish in the surf on the eastern side of the atoll—a beautiful specimen that added a real sense excitement to his trip. Alongside this catch, Robert’s week was filled with giant trevally, and by the end of his adventure, he had amassed an impressive 33 fish over the course of the week. Two particular GTs deserve special mention: a massive 101 cm and a 95 cm specimen. Congratulations, Robert, on an incredible fishing week and some impressive numbers!
John had a standout week, landing a beautiful Moustache Triggerfish just outside the main channel in the surf. In addition to this impressive catch, he went on to land 28 giant trevally over six days of fishing. His dedication and skill were evident as he tackled these powerful fish, both from the boat and on foot in the surf. John’s persistence and technique made for an exciting and successful week, and we couldn’t be more impressed with his catch tally. Well done, John!
Peter Rippen, our host for the week, kicked off his fishing adventure in spectacular fashion, landing a flats slam on the very first day. His slam consisted of a giant trevally, a milkfish, and a bonefish, an incredible accomplishment that set the tone for what would be a memorable week of fishing. As if that wasn’t enough, Peter went on to land two impressive GTs, measuring 96 cm and 94 cm, later in the week, showcasing both his skill and persistence. His ability to consistently hook into such prized fish made for an exciting and successful trip. Congratulations to Peter for some truly outstanding fishing—what a way to kick off the season!
