COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 16 JAN – 23 JAN 2025
Our past week on Cosmoledo Atoll was an exciting one, revolving mostly around the neap tides, following the full moon spring tides. The first two days were marked by large water movements, which gradually slowed down as the week progressed. This shift in tides played a key role in the fishing conditions, offering both challenges and opportunities throughout the week.
The weather this week was fairly mild, with very little wind, conditions were calm and pleasant for most of the week, except for the last day when wind conditions spiked slightly. As for light conditions, the first two days, as well as the last two, were a bit hindered by partial cloud cover. This cloud cover and light winds kept things interesting, but didn’t dampen the spirits of our anglers who remained focused and eager to fish.
One of the highlights of the week was the incredible success of Garret & Kim House, John & Nancy John, Mark Chandler, and Charles Thorne—each of whom landed their very first giant trevally! There’s nothing quite like the rush of hooking and landing a GT for the first time.
Dennis Laptev had a particularly memorable start to his trip. On the very first day, he was fortunate enough to hook and land a beautiful yellow margin triggerfish, setting the tone for the rest of his week. He didn’t stop there, though—Dennis went on to land several impressive giant trevally, including a particularly noteworthy fish that measured 91 cm. Congratulations to Dennis on some outstanding fishing, and for kicking off his trip in such spectacular fashion!
Charles Thorne also had a remarkable week. Along with his first Giant Trevally, he managed to land a stunning 47 cm yellow margin triggerfish—his very first triggerfish. But the excitement didn’t stop there. Charles went on to catch the biggest bonefish he’s ever landed, which was an incredible way to wrap up his week. Congratulations to Charles for such an impressive array of catches!
David Hirsch, who has fished the outer islands of the Seychelles on several occasions, was no stranger to the thrill of chasing giant trevally. However, this week, he added a new achievement to his list with an incredible 101 cm GT, the biggest of his trip. On top of that, he landed another nine giant trevally throughout the week, making for some epic fishing. Congratulations to David for some truly outstanding performances on the water!
As the week came to a close, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the amazing group of anglers who joined us. The weather, the tides, and the fish all aligned to create a memorable week on Cosmoledo Atoll. Thank you to Garret & Kim, John & Nancy, Mark, Charles, Dennis, and David for making this week great. We’d love to welcome all of you back to Cosmoledo in the future to create more unforgettable memories. We can’t wait to see you again soon!
