COSMOLEDO ATOLL FLY FISHING REPORT | 27 FEB – 06 MAR 2025
This week on Cosmoledo was spent during a tremendous February new moon spring tide, featuring some of the most dramatic tidal movements we’ve witnessed this season. The conditions could not have been more perfect, making it an unforgettable experience. The weather was absolutely ideal, with a light breeze, clear skies, and incredible tides, which resulted in some outstanding fishing results throughout the week. We were truly spoiled by the beauty and bounty of this incredible atoll!
Within the first few days, many of our anglers caught their very first giant trevally, quickly picking up the tricks of the trade to target this iconic species. Beth Roth, Dolores Cavatore, Margaret Montaigne, John Tobola, Amy Smith, and Elwyn Evans all succeeded in landing their first giant trevally. Congratulations on ticking this bucket-list species off your list!
In addition to the giant trevally, many phenomenal triggerfish were caught both within the lagoon and along the surf on the edge of the atoll. Many of these were firsts for the anglers who landed them! Elwyn Evans, Amy Smith, Joseph Vansickle, Margaret Montaigne, and John Tobola all managed to hook and land their very own moustache triggerfish—another milestone achieved!
Cosmoledo’s giant trevally made an appearance this week, with four incredible fish over one meter being landed. Jeff Smith was particularly successful, catching two of these giants: a 126 cm and a 109 cm giant trevally. Along with these amazing catches, Jeff also landed his very first milkfish. Congratulations, Jeff. Joseph Vansickle also had a thrilling encounter, landing a 119 cm giant trevally after an epic short battle. Congratulations, Joseph! Elwyn Evans rounded out the week with his very first giant trevally, a beautiful 101 cm fish. A massive congratulations to Elwyn on this fantastic achievement! Beth Roth had an exceptional catch this week, landing one of Cosmoledo’s more elusive species—a stunning emerald parrotfish. This rare and beautiful catch will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations, Beth! A huge thank you to all of you for joining us this week. It was an absolute pleasure to have you here, and we hope to welcome you back to Cosmoledo soon!
